Several compounds share the GHRH framework, including sermorelin, the shorter 1-29 fragment, and other analogs built on the full 1-44 chain. Naming follows a common convention: a stem that identifies the peptide plus a suffix marking analog status. Reports may describe tesamorelin by its sequence fragment, as a GHRH(1-44) analog, or by its amino-terminal modification. Indexing the compound therefore requires searching all of these forms, since some older literature predates the current international nonproprietary name.
Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide built from 44 amino acids and classified with the growth hormone–releasing hormone family. Its sequence corresponds to the human GHRH(1-44) backbone, carrying one structural change at the amino terminus. That change is a trans-3-hexenoyl group placed where the natural peptide would have an unmodified end. The modification is the feature that separates the compound from the endogenous hormone in name, in stability, and in how it is handled in the laboratory.
Regulatory approval in the United States came in 2010, when the Food and Drug Administration cleared the peptide for the reduction of excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV infection and associated lipodystrophy. The decision rested mainly on two randomized phase 3 trials that enrolled roughly eight hundred patients and ran for twenty-six weeks. Participants receiving active drug showed substantially greater declines in visceral adipose tissue than those receiving placebo, while total body weight changed comparatively little. A reformulated presentation was later approved, and the product has remained a niche therapy rather than a general weight-loss agent.
Tesamorelin occupies a narrow position among agents that act on the growth hormone axis. Unlike growth hormone itself, which is given as replacement, it stimulates the pituitary to release the hormone in pulses, so the downstream increase in insulin-like growth factor 1 depends on intact somatotroph function. Other peptides in the same family include shorter GHRH fragments and synthetic secretagogues with different stability profiles. Several points remain unresolved, including whether the reduction in visceral fat translates into fewer cardiovascular events, what happens to metabolic markers after long-term use, and how the drug compares with lifestyle or surgical approaches.

== Available forms == Both the oral and intravenous preparations of flucloxacillin are inexpensive and are available as the sodium salt flucloxacillin sodium, in capsules (250 or 500 mg), oral suspensions (125 mg/5 ml or 250 mg/5 ml), and injections (powder for reconstitution, 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 mg per vial). Flucloxacillin is not commonly used in the United States or Canada as of 2011, but is the most commonly prescribed narrow-spectrum penicillinase-resistant penicillin in the UK. It is supplied under a variety of trade names including Floxapen, Flopen, Flubex, Flupen, Phylopen, and Staphylex.
In contrast, the concentration of the activator is primarily determined by its solubility in acetonitrile and is irrespective of the scale of the synthesis. Upon the completion of the coupling, any unbound reagents and by-products are removed by washing.
Sexual dysfunction is a common side effect of citalopram and other SSRIs. In some patients, these effects persist after discontinuation of the drug, a condition known as post-SSRI sexual dysfunction (PSSD). Characteristic symptoms include genital numbness, pleasureless or weak orgasm, loss of libido, and erectile dysfunction; non-sexual symptoms such as emotional blunting and cognitive impairment may also occur. The condition can arise after even brief exposure to a serotonin reuptake inhibitor and may persist indefinitely; there is currently no established treatment. The DSM-5 noted in 2013 that serotonin reuptake inhibitor-induced sexual dysfunction may persist after the agent is discontinued. A 2023 retrospective cohort study of over 12,000 males estimated the risk of irreversible sexual dysfunction at approximately 0.46% of patients treated with serotonergic antidepressants, including SSRIs, though the actual prevalence remains uncertain and the condition is likely underreported. A 2023 systematic review found that citalopram was the second most frequently reported SSRI in PSSD case reports, after escitalopram. In 2019, the European Medicines Agency's Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC) recommended that product labels for all SSRIs and SNRIs, including citalopram, be updated to state that sexual dysfunction may be long-lasting even after treatment is stopped. Health Canada followed with similar label updates in 2021.
In his first Senate campaign, Biden had expressed support for busing to remedy de jure segregation, as in the South, but opposed its use to remedy de facto segregation arising from racial patterns of neighborhood residency, as in Delaware; he opposed a proposed constitutional amendment banning busing entirely. Biden supported a 1976 measure forbidding the use of federal funds for transporting students beyond the school closest to them. He co-sponsored a 1977 amendment closing loopholes in that measure, which President Carter signed into law in 1978. Biden became ranking minority member of the Senate Judiciary Committee in 1981. He was a Democratic floor manager for the successful passage of the Comprehensive Crime Control Act in 1984. His supporters praised him for modifying some of the law's worst provisions, and it was his most important legislative accomplishment to that time. In 1994, Biden helped pass the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, which included a ban on assault weapons, and the Violence Against Women Act, which he has called his most significant legislation. The 1994 crime law was unpopular among progressives and criticized for resulting in mass incarceration; Biden later expressed regret for passing the bill. Biden voted for a 1993 provision that deemed homosexuality incompatible with military life, thereby banning gay people from serving in the armed forces.

=== Causes === Riboflavin deficiency is usually found together with other nutrient deficiencies, particularly of other water-soluble vitamins. A deficiency of riboflavin can be primary (i.e. caused by poor vitamin sources in the regular diet) or secondary, which may be a result of conditions that affect absorption in the intestine. Secondary deficiencies are typically caused by the body not being able to use the vitamin, or by an increased rate of excretion of the vitamin. Diet patterns that increase risk of deficiency include veganism and low-dairy vegetarianism. Diseases such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes may cause or exacerbate riboflavin deficiency. There are rare genetic defects that compromise riboflavin absorption, transport, metabolism or use by flavoproteins. One of these is riboflavin transporter deficiency, previously known as Brown–Vialetto–Van Laere syndrome. Variants of the genes SLC52A2 and SLC52A3 which code for transporter proteins RDVT2 and RDVT3, respectively, are defective. Infants and young children present with muscle weakness, cranial nerve deficits including hearing loss, sensory symptoms including sensory ataxia, feeding difficulties, and respiratory distress caused by a sensorimotor axonal neuropathy and cranial nerve pathology. When untreated, infants with riboflavin transporter deficiency have labored breathing and are at risk of dying in the first decade of life. Treatment with oral supplementation of high amounts of riboflavin is lifesaving.
=== Background === Influenced by strategic analyses such as the 1976 Team B report—which argued U.S. intelligence had vastly underestimated Soviet threats—and ideas of the Citizens' Advisory Council on National Space Policy, President Ronald Reagan announced the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) in 1983. It proposed a space-based global missile defense constellation intended to render nuclear weapons "impotent and obsolete." The program immediately faced challenges, with concerns by Congress, including prominent senators Sam Nunn and Joe Biden, over its apparent violation of the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, questionable technical feasibility, spiraling launch costs, poor cost-exchange ratio, and destabilizing impact on arms control. By the 1990s, SDI was formally restructured into the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization, pivoting from space-based platforms to more proven ground- and sea-based systems. U.S. missile defense policy continued to evolve, with the 1999 National Missile Defense Act mandating a system to defend against limited ballistic missile attacks. Following a later Team B report's recommendation, President George W. Bush withdrew the U.S. from the ABM Treaty in 2001. The Obama administration's 2010 Review shifted focus from a homeland-centered shield to more flexible and cooperative regional defenses, limiting the space component to sensing and tracking. This was adjusted by the Trump administration's 2019 Review, expanding scope from rogue states such as North Korea, to include advanced hypersonic threats from "competitors" like Russia and China.

=== Pharmacokinetics === Prednisolone has a relatively short half-life, ranging 2–4 hours. It also has a large therapeutic window, considering the dosage required to produce a therapeutic effect is a few times higher than what the body naturally produces. Prednisolone is 70–90% plasma protein bound, it binds to proteins such as albumin. Both prednisolone phosphate and prednisolone acetate go through ester hydrolysis in the body to form prednisolone. It subsequently undergoes the usual metabolism of prednisolone. Concomitant use of prednisolone and strong CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ketoconazole is shown to cause a rise in plasma prednisolone concentrations by about 50% owing to a diminished clearance. Prednisolone predominantly undergoes kidney elimination and is excreted in the urine as sulphate and metabolites of glucuronide conjugate.
=== February === 2 February – The President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola began a two-day visit to Ireland. She addressed both Houses of the Oireachtas as part of the 50th anniversary (1 January 1973) of Ireland joining the European Economic Community (now the European Union), and met the president, taoiseach, and tánaiste. 6 February – The Lia Fáil – the coronation stone for the High Kings of Ireland on the Hill of Tara – was vandalised when the word "Fake" was spray painted on the 5,000-year-old granite stone. 7 February Government ministers met with aviation and police authorities for briefing on illegal drone activity at Dublin Airport between 4–6 February which forced suspension of flying and diversions of flights to other airports. == Directed self-assembly == Directed self-assembly (DSA) is a type of directed assembly which utilizes block co-polymer morphology to create lines, space and hole patterns, facilitating for a more accurate control of the feature shapes. Then it uses surface interactions as well as polymer thermodynamics to finalize the formation of the final pattern shapes. To control the surface interactions enabling sub-10 nm resolution, a team consisting of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Chicago, and Argonne National Laboratory developed a way to use vapor-phase deposited polymeric top layer on the block co-polymer film in 2017. The DSA is not a standalone process, but rather is integrated with traditional manufacturing processes in order to mass-produce micro and nano structures at a lower cost. Directed self-assembly is mostly used in the semiconductor and hard drive industries. The semiconductor industry uses this assembly method in order to be able increase the resolution (trying to fit in more gates), while the hard drive industry uses DSA to manufacture "bit patterned media" according to the specified storage densities.
==== Constitutional amendments ==== Paragraph 6 of Article 29 stated that, if a petition was successful, a referendum should be held within three years. Since the deadline passed on 5 May 1958 without anything happening, the Hesse state government filed a constitutional complaint with the Federal Constitutional Court in October 1958. The complaint was dismissed in July 1961 on the grounds that Article 29 had made the new delimitation of the federal territory an exclusively federal matter. At the same time, the Court reaffirmed the requirement for a territorial revision as a binding order to the relevant constitutional bodies. The grand coalition decided to settle the 1956 petitions by setting binding deadlines for the required referendums. The referendums in Lower Saxony and Rhineland-Palatinate were to be held by 31 March 1975, and the referendum in Baden was to be held by 30 June 1970. The threshold for a successful vote was set at one-quarter of those entitled to vote in Bundestag elections. Paragraph 4 stated that the vote should be disregarded if it contradicted the objectives of paragraph 1. In his investiture address, given on 28 October 1969 in Bonn, Chancellor Willy Brandt proposed that the government would consider Article 29 of the Basic Law as a binding order. An expert commission was established, named after its chairman, the former Secretary of State Professor Werner Ernst. After two years of work, the experts delivered their report in 1973. It provided an alternative proposal for the two regions: the north and center-southwest.
== Diagnosis == Kwashiorkor, or edematous malnutrition, like many other malnutrition diseases, is indirectly assessed using anthropometry. Kwashiorkor is a subtype of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) characterized by bilateral peripheral pitting edema. According to the World Health Organization, the SAM diagnosis parameters are a "mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) of < 115 mm, weight-for-height/length Z-score (WHZ) of < -3Z and nutritional edema or any combination of these parameters." Additional clinical findings on physical exam include marked muscle atrophy, abdominal distension, dermatitis, and hepatomegaly. WHO criteria for clinical assessment of malnutrition are based on the degree of wasting (MUAC), stunting (weight-for-height Z-score), and the presence of edema (mild to severe). In addition to anthropometric measures, laboratory tests can be critical for diagnosing kwashiorkor. Low serum albumin levels (hypoalbuminemia) are a hallmark of protein deficiency, and elevated liver enzymes may indicate liver dysfunction. Electrolyte imbalances and blood tests may also be used to assess the degree of organ involvement and complications. Specifically in children, severe malnutrition, such as kwashiorkor, can lead to notable changes in brain function and behavior. Children with kwashiorkor tend to be irritable and may develop cerebral atrophy, whereas those with severe wasting frequently show apathy, reduced movement, and speech delays. These neurological and behavioral changes are key factors in the clinical assessment of malnutrition.
Sodium oxybate has also been investigated and been of interest to improve sleep and associated symptoms in other conditions with sleep disruption, such as myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and long COVID, which also have high rates of non-restorative sleep. In addition, sodium oxybate was limitedly studied to improve insomnia in people with depression or bipolar disorder. However, it was reported to paradoxically disrupt sleep and induce narcolepsy-like changes in these individuals. Moreover, concerns about misuse have limited use of sodium oxybate for other medical conditions. GHB has also garnered a reputation as a date-rape drug, although the actual prevalence of this appears to be much lower than popular perception. The GABAB receptor agonist baclofen has also been more limitedly investigated for improvement of sleep and has been found to be effective in enhancing sleep similarly to sodium oxybate. However, in people with narcolepsy, baclofen and sodium oxybate both improved sleep but only sodium oxybate reduced daytime sleepiness. In any case, research in this area is limited, and there remains significant interest in baclofen in the potential treatment of sleeping problems. Unlike sodium oxybate, baclofen is not a controlled substance and has much less or no misuse potential. Baclofen and sodium oxybate have been found to activate the GABAB receptor differently, which is thought to underlie the differences in their effects.

No. It is a peptide that acts upstream of growth hormone release, while growth hormone is the hormone itself. The two differ in size, in receptor, and in how the body clears them.
It blocks the amino-terminal degradation step that limits native GHRH. The addition extends how long the peptide survives in plasma without removing its ability to activate the receptor.
The chain contains 44 amino acid residues. It matches the human GHRH(1-44) sequence apart from the amino-terminal modification.
It is a laboratory-made peptide of forty-four amino acids whose sequence matches human growth hormone-releasing hormone, with a modified amino terminus. The modification is a short unsaturated fatty acid chain attached to the first residue. This change slows enzymatic breakdown and lengthens the time the peptide stays active in circulation.
